Hello Darlings! Are you ready for Adventure?
Little known fact #1: I am a certified introvert.
Little known fact #2: I am an occasional goofball.
How do the two things go together? I think people assume introverts are serious, studious types, and we are…at times…but we can also be outgoing and even funny when we are comfortable with those around us. I love going out and having a great time, but after, you’ll find me in the snuggliest sweater and leggings I can find, wrapped in my down comforter with a book or my I Pad.
At home, in silly mode, I have been known to greet my family with loud and annoying “Hello Darlings!” To which they usually roll their eyes and continue doing what ever they are doing. Last night, something big happened. I was watching Father Brown–I’m a big fan of British mysteries–when one of the characters did the “Hello Darlings!” JUST LIKE I DO and added mischievously, “Are you ready for adventure?” What fun! So now I have that to torment my loved ones with!
So, Darlings, are you ready for adventure? Even this introvert loves adventure! Anticipation, surprises and delights. This style blog wouldn’t be any fun if adventure didn’t include something great to wear.
I’ve been really feeling an early 1950’s vintage vibe. We’ve been watching Father Brown, as I said, (on Netflix), and I fell in love with the aesthetic. The costume designer for the show did a completely amazing job with color, putting together interesting combinations that really flattered the actresses. They pulled out the stops with accents such as hats, gloves, jewelry and handbags–the characters usually wear sensible shoes on these shows–aside from the shoes, I just couldn’t get enough! We binged through the entire series and are now waiting anxiously for next season.
While attempting 1950’s hairstyles and makeup is a bit beyond my abilities, and I don’t have any real vintage clothes, I figured a big hat, sunglasses and a super cute halter dress would go a long way toward creating the vibe I was after. I gave the red lips a go, too which was fun for the day.
In spite of my introversion, I am a girl who loves adventure…fashion adventures, that is…So we set off to the park to see if we could capture the vibe. Oh, and I completely forgot gloves! Anyway, was a stupendously glorious day! I did my best to channel my inner 1950’s movie star and boy was it fun. It shouldn’t surprise you to know that as I write this, I am wearing my leggings, a giant cashmere sweater and fleece slippers. Ciao for now, Darlings!
