I can’t believe it’s September already! August seemed to completely fly by! This month has been full of great memories and surprises, as well as a few challenges.
Brooke headed off to college for her second term. Going for the summer helped prepare her for what would have been a completely overwhelming experience had she gone in cold. Luckily, she knew her way around the campus, knew the ‘move in drill’ and had a few friends. What she wasn’t prepared for was the huge-and I mean huge-crush of students coming and going—she’s not a big crowd person, so she’s learning to adapt.
As for Roger and me, we’ve been doing well, I’ve made some new friends and have been getting out more. We visited Disney Springs at the beginning of the month, and helped Brooke move home for two weeks between terms. During those couple of weeks, Brooke and I had a Princess Day shopping and chatting, as well as spending a lot of quality time together. You can read more about our visit here: Off to College
We celebrated Roger’s birthday and I attended a campaign kick off for a friend running for Governor. If you’d like me to tell you about what it’s like to run for and hold public office, I would be happy to share my experiences as a City Commissioner for six years. I attended a Style Edge meeting—I will be sharing more about Style Edge and it’s amazing founder Patty Soltis in an upcoming post. Then off I went to Blo Blow Dry Bar for my makeover, you can read about it here and beauty tips I learned here:My Blo Blow Dry Experience And 12 Simple Tips to Up Your Beauty Game
What I’m Grateful For:
I am Grateful for Sunday Brunch and Afternoon Teas.
I am grateful for sunny weather—finally. We’ve had lots of rain here in Florida and some flooding, but obviously nowhere near the rainfall and flooding received in Houston and Louisiana. My prayers go out to all affected by hurricane and tropical storm Harvey. Be sure to tune in on Friday when I post about coping Irma, whose now on her way.
I am grateful for the new friends I have been making both in real life and on line. I have been focusing on making friends lately and have been blessed by many new people in my life. A special thank you to my on line friends! I love reading your comments and blogs.
I have learned so much from other bloggers over the past several months. If you haven’t checked out Friday’s post and Style Wise link ups, you should. The linkups aren’t just for bloggers. If you are a blogger, and have never done a link up, just follow the directions at the end of Friday’s post, click the blue button and add a post to our link up. If you are a reader, scroll through the thumbnails, find one or more that look interesting and click on the thumbnail, and you will be transported to another blog—the bloggers you will meet are amazing!
This month, I showed looks from J.Jill’s late summer collection and styled one of their classic swing dresses several ways, as well as giving a pair of cropped pants a whirl, and found I love them! You can see those posts Check out Too Cool For School we style one dress four ways. and Styling Cropped Pants from Day to Evening
I also enjoyed being pampered by Soft Surroundings, they sent the beautiful outfit I wore for Labor Day, along with a box of skin care goodies. I am looking forward to sharing reviews on the items all month. Check out my Labor Day Look Here
On The Telly:
We binged out on new seasons of Vera, Janet King, and caught up on Mid Sommer Murders, but it’s Longmire that has my heart right now. It’s about a county Sheriff from Wyoming who solves murders and intrigue with an interesting cast of characters. The show sheds light on a variety of social issues including Native American relations, human trafficking, drug use, and PTSD to name a few. I’ve binged up to season five. The sixth and final season is supposed to air on Netflix in October. I’d love to hear what you are watching—let me know in the comments section if you have favorite series.
In My Bin:
This month, I used up most of my regular skin care, my Image Vital C, my NeoStrata Dermal Replenishment, and Retinol+NAG Complex. I am considering some minor changes, but am not sure what I want to try next. Any suggestions? What skincare are you really loving now? As for my hair, I used up my Alterna Caviar Anti Aging Shampoo, and plan to try a full size Briogeo Roscaro Repair Shampoo and Conditioner.
What I’m Trying Right Now
Somme Institute Nourishing Cleanser, a creamy fresh scented cleanser that gives my skin that clean washed feeling. It is said to remove makeup and grime as well as nourish the skin. I found it did not even come close to removing my makeup, but since I usually remove my makeup separately, that part wasn’t a disappointment. It contains Niacinamide and Vitamin A, and helps with acne and aging skin. I love the scent, and the formulation, but is it worth the $40 price tag? (Right now the DermStore is running a BOGO two for $40) I normally use Cera Ve from Target which I love, so I’m not sure if I’ll be making a switch.
With the Nourishing Cleanser, I also received a two week supply of Transport Pads, a set of exfoliating facial pads that are said to give your skin a more radiant, clear complexion. The pads contain vitamins A,C,E, B3 and B5. The pads were amply soaked with the ingredients, and stung a little on application—this is common for products containing AHA’s and vitamin A.
The problem is, my skin has actually been breaking out lately, and I’m not sure whether it’s hormones, my makeup, or my trying new products, so for me, the jury is still out. If you’ve tried Somme Institute, please share your experience in the comments.
The samples were sent to me by Soft Surroundings, which, in addition to clothes, accessories, and items for the home, also offers skin care and makeup with a focus on caring for mature skin.
I have been madly in love with Pinterest lately—I’ve created several new boards including a best of our Style Wise link ups, and a new group board you can join if you’d like—the more the merrier. Check out my Pinterest and give me a follow, if you like what you see.
