With invites to holiday gatherings filling my mail box, I am all about pulling together easy, comfortable interchangeable looks. I love pieces I can pull together for a quick weekend out of town, or work to dinner party looks with just a couple of easy swap outs.
Last year, I found an inexpensive wrap dress that I showed several different ways with sweaters, wraps and shrugs I had in my closet. Check out the video here. It was so much fun putting together those looks that I was inspired to do it again this year, only this time with a different twist. I chose four pieces three of which I already had in my closet. I pulled black dress pants, a simple black cami and a strappy black dress.
From the start of the season, embroidered floral tops have had my heart, so I kept my eye out for just the right one. Early on, I found one I loved, but when I went to order it was sold out. The next one I found had a flaw so I had to send it back. When I had given up and wasn’t looking at all, I found this one by Piano C and fell in love. I knew instantly how I’d style it.
While jeans are always an option and go with all sorts of different tops, (I’d add a pair or red booties if I were to wear this top with jeans) I went for a more formal look and styled it with my favorite black dress pants with a simple black cami underneath. Going from work to dinner, I might wear a white button up with the black cami underneath to work and just before heading out for dinner, I’d swap the button up for the floral top and a pair of fun earrings.
I love my black strappy dress with its flirty layers and high/low hem, and plan to wear it a bunch when the weather warms up in the summer, but for the winter I can wear it with a simple wrap for a special evening. Taking it up a notch, it looked like a whole different dress with the floral top over it. Many years ago I fell in love with an Oscar de la Renata dress that had a full skirt and a stunning lace over blouse. I figure if Oscar can do it, so can I.
I love pieces like this for travel, you could wear the dress or pants and cami by themselves or change the look completely by simply adding different tops—I’ve seen girls wearing turtlenecks underneath strappy sun dresses. It’s a cute look and allows you to wear your favorite dresses and tops year around.
