Hey, you there. Are you just about totally over winter? Shoveling snow, sleet storms, freezing temperatures, your hands and feet perpetually cold and bundling up in all those heavy layers of clothes? Bored with all those sweaters and jackets you couldn’t wait to wear a few short months ago? I bet you never thought you’d get secrets that elevate your winter style from me, a Florida girl, but I did grow up in Michigan, and I know a thing or two about cold weather and looking cute. As the good friend that I am, I am here to help. I love finding ways to elevate my look, especially when I’m bored with my wardrobe, without further ado, here are my secrets to elevate your winter style along with affiliated links so you can purchase the same or similar items–as always, the opinions are my own. Accessories are our friends. Scarves, hats, gloves and boots completely change basic jackets and coats, and let’s face it, we played it safe and chose classic coats and jackets to start with because they always look great and they are easily accessorized. Come the middle of the winter though, it has gets old, and, I don’t know about you, but I need a little inspiration to keep me going.
In the looks I am showing today, I added hats—I love hats for two reasons, one, because they really elevate an outfit, and two, because they keep the sun off my face so I can avoid more age spots and wrinkles. Gloves, another great way to add a pop to your winter look. I very purposely set out to find cute gloves in bright colors that go with my coats. Just a bright hat or scarf and matching gloves change a basic winter coat in one. And you already knew I’d mention scarves. Of course you did. Now it the time to experiment with scarves at the neck, inside peeking out, or outside with a dramatic cowl or interesting knot. Don’t forget boots—this winter I took the plunge and tried several boot looks—over the knee, classic knee high and ankle boots in with pattern, texture and color. Boots have really made this season fun, and now is the time to get some fun boots on sale. So if you’ve already got the basics, strike out and try something bold and new. As a wild card, I wanted to remind you of our grandmother’s trick, a simple—or elaborate—broach. I have collected broaches from each of my grandmothers, and I love wearing them because they create that unique element that makes a look your own, and for me, wearing my grandmother’s broaches remind me of them and how interesting they were.
