It’s Labor Day, a day for picnics, cook outs and family gatherings. Even though the first day of Autumn is September 22, and at least here, the weather has not begun to cool, Labor Day seems to mark the end of summer. Fall decor and fashions have hit the stores and we style bloggers are putting together fall Look-Books and posts about how to update our wardrobes for the cooler months.
I spent several hours updating my Pinterest Boards, looking for autumnal recipes, home decor ideas and new ways to style a fall table. I wandered through Michaels, looking for DIY inspiration and a candle shop sniffing cinnamon, and pumpkin spice, trying to find just the right Autumnal scent to denote the change from summer to fall.
When I was a girl, school started around Labor Day and there were often quiet celebrations to commemorate the labor movement, prosperity and the American Spirit. Mothers seemed to breathe a sigh of relief to have their homes and routines back—I love my daughter, but I also liked school’s recommencement, having several hours to myself each day to get into various projects completed uninterrupted.
There are those who, like me, start a huge autumnal house cleaning to prepare for the winter months (I do it in the spring too). With Brooke grown and gone, Labor Day will pass quietly, perhaps a lunch alfresco at our favorite waterside restaurant and some time spent puttering around the marina.
For this day, I chose a look from Soft Surrounding’s Timeless and Transitional collection. I wanted to try the five pocket pull on leggings, which are just like regular jeans, except you just pull them on and off. I always love surplice tops because of the lovely shape they give most figure types. I chose cosmos blue with 3/4 length sleeves. When I wear a shirt and pants of any kind, I like adding jewelry to take the look up a notch, in this case the Azure Enhancer worn on my own chain so it fell in the V of my top giving me the “completed” look I love.
A special thanks to Soft Surrounding for sending the leggings, top and necklace enhanser for today’s post.
