I grew up in Michigan, Traverse City, actually. (I’d do the hand mitten thing, but there’s Google now so you can look it up if you are curious). It got cold there, so I know cold weather. Florida does not have cold weather often, but many of us dress seasonally, none the less. I still miss the changing seasons, especially colored leaves and the first snow.
Funny aside, the other day Brooke and I were at a store where she tried on a really cute sweater with flowers embroidered down the sleeves which we bought for an upcoming ski trip. So she’s trying on the sweater and says, “This is really cute, but I don’t think it will be warm enough, I’ll have to find something to wear over it, but then the sleeves won’t show.” I had a good laugh over that one. You wear a thermal shirt under the pretty sweater, Sweetheart! She’s a native Floridian, through and through.
I love cold weather clothes, and have a lovely collection of leather and wool jackets, cozy blanket scarves and soft cashmere sweaters which I wear in what passes for winter here in Florida. There’s something about a well cut jacket or a super soft sweater I can’t resist, so when Talbots asked me to choose an item or two from their winter collection, I saw this navy pea coat and had to have it. I could see it dressed up or down with jeans, dress pants or a skirt with tights and boots. I could see it with the scarves and gloves I’ve collected over the years, and I’m sorry, I just couldn’t help myself. It grabbed me and said “Hello, pick me!” So I did.
This pea coat has several details I love, including the shaping in the back, and the brass buttons in the front. This is a refined version of the military look we’ve been seeing the last few seasons and is a classic that I will enjoy in my wardrobe for years to come.
So here’s to hoping that this year will be a cold one here in Florida—I know you snowbirds wont appreciate it, but I want to wear this new jacket like no body’s business, so there better be a few cold days, or maybe a trip up north in my future so can enjoy styling my coat.
