It’s no secret that I love fashion, and while I’m no slave to the trends, I am definitely curious what is coming our way each year. We’re at the time of year where we are still really in winter, its cold and we’ve already incorporated 2017 trends into our wardrobe. Spring and summer looks haven’t really shown up yet, though our yearnings for warmer weather are beginning sprout.
While you were skiing, I snuck out and did a quick 2018 trend recon—and as you can imagine, there is some pretty crazy looking stuff coming off the run way—it always seems that way at first—but when you see it in the store or on one of your trendsetter friends—then you wish you had spent a little less time on the slopes and more time with me, snooping. (Actually you can go ahead and ski—I’ve prepared Clif Notes).
This year we will see ruffles, checks, sequins and plastic—hopefully the plastic trend will come out in the cooler months. There will be fringe—think flapper- and sheer dresses and tops. We also see daring side slits—but most of it isn’t exactly wearable. As always, I pick and choose based on my mood, what inspires me and what I think I might look good in.
There are some bright spots:
In terms of pattern, florals and checks will still be going strong, along with both bold colors and pastels. Everyone already knows that Ultra Violet is Pantone’s color of the year—so if you are into purples, be sure to stock up. I love pastels and can’t wait to see this season’s offerings. We will be seeing more suit looks, specifically single toned pant suits in vibrant brights or soft pastels—I plan to keep an eye on this trend.
Fun with shoes: “Cinderella” shoes, beautiful sequins as well as babydoll slippers will be super hot this year as well as embellished sneakers—I’m already thinking of a shoe DIY for spring—how fun is that! Shoes are always fun and wearable—nothing to take too seriously and this season, I think we are all going to have fun playing with shoes.
Jewelry is something almost everyone can wear. Some years, jewelry has been the only thing that inspired me. I only buy what I really love regardless of the trends. In any event, statement earrings are still all the rage. I wear my big gold hoops almost nonstop, but am looking at some of the geometric hammered metal styles to add to my collection this year. Hopefully they wont be to heavy—I love bold but light weight earrings—that’s why I love my gold hoops.
I’m glad to see alternatives to skinny jeans: I do wear skinnies and leggings a lot, but I am loving the flowing wide leg trousers I’m beginning to see. I styled two pair of cropped wide leg pants last summer—they were quite fun. I can imagine myself wearing a pair of light weight wide leg trousers with several different types of tops as we head into spring and summer.
So here is a round up–trends to wear now and into spring and summer–I even found a few items on sale! What trends are you watching for 2018? Anything that inspires you yet?
