Contemplating a closet clear out before the new spring trends appear? I’m always on the look out for what’s hot and what’s not, though if I love an item, I definitely keep it and wear it proudly well after it’s use by date—that’s part of how this girl creates her signature style, after all. If you are looking to clear some space in your closet to make way for new trends, here are a few trends I’m holding on to this year:
1. I was sad to see that off shoulder styles were on the list of looks to drop in 2018. I purchased three off shoulder tops last summer that I love, love, love, so guess what? I’m still going to wear them along with my floral cold shoulder dress from two seasons ago—I can’t seem to get enough of that little dress. Maybe I need to add a few more casual events to my calendar so I have more opportunities to wear it!
2.Another look I am not ready to see go is bomber jackets—I didn’t get one myself last year, but Brooke did and boy is it cute. I was trying to figure out how to “borrow” it but she wears it all the time, so I couldn’t get my hands on it short of stealing it while she slept—and what kind of mother does that? Bomber jackets were so fun and I saw so much potential for styling. Who knows, maybe the fashion gurus are wrong. Here are a few I still have my eye on anyway!
3.Chokers are another look being kicked to the curb in 2018, I happen to love them, myself. A simple ribbon and perhaps a pendant of some sort and voila, a beautiful look. I never worry much about chokers’ coming and going, they are a classic, not a huge cost investment, and like Arnold, they will be back.
4. Leather “Festival fringe” reminiscent of the late sixties with it’s cool hippy vibe is going out, and while I neither loved nor hated the look, I am getting a little tired of boho. I was an early adopter and am ready for something new. I’ve been playing with retro looks along with some old classic standbys while I wait for a huge new trend to appear on the horizon. Boho has had an amazing run. Now just so we’re clear, festival fringe is different than the fringe we will be seeing in 2018 which is much more flapper. Flapper fringe is going to be red hot this year- so if you love it, be sure to get in on the action. If you love festival fringe, why not get it while you can? Here are a bunch of cool looks and bonus: they are on sale.
5.I’m going to bet that open toe booties will be off the list, but I am not over my (festival) fringe open toe booties, so while everyone else will be letting theirs go, I will still be giving mine some love. I have three pair, but I’m probably going to by a couple more pair since they are on sale, after all.
So dear fashionistas, it may be time to say goodbye by to some great trends—and some we are glad to see go, as we start filling our bins, and setting our sights on new trends for 2018. I’m already seeing visions of Ultra Violet, all sorts of feminine florals and beautiful sheer net pieces—don’t worry—undergarments are a part of all my styling plans!
Stay tuned: Next Wednesday’s post will be the most wearable trends of 2018-so far!
