As we head into this new season, it will come as no surprise that denim and denim outfits will play a significant role in our wardrobes. Each year, we see minor tweaks to this wardrobe staple. I don’t know about you, but I am always curious and interested in updating my denim each year to keep current. So lets talk about jean trends 2024. If you are put off by new fashion trends, you can never go wrong with a good pair of classic jeans and a white shirt. But stick with me here, there are a bunch of cute styles you may want to try, plus a few tips on styling denim this season.
Top Denim Styles
Some will be disappointed while others will rejoice– there is no comeback of the skinny jeans; the skinny jean will remain in the closet in favor of wide-leg jeans, straight leg jeans and baggy jeans, though we seem to be trending more toward straight-leg jeans cropped just above the ankle bone. Wide leg jeans, flare jeans and barrel jeans will serve as fresh takes to this closet staple. Be on the look out for utility influences when considering which types of jeans you want to add to your denim collection.
Dark Denim: This Season’s Color Story:
Dark denim will predominate after several seasons of lighter washes taking the lead in recent years–though truth be told, we will still see a variety of mid tone washes as well as the dark washes. Acid washes, and severely distressed jeans will not be trending this season, but if you love them, make them yours.
Choosing the Right Rise:
When it comes to denim style, we can’t ignore the rise. Super high waist denim won’t be as prevalent as we have seen in the past couple of years in favor of a comfortable mid to high rise depending on your body shape. We did see a hint that low rise might be making a comeback, but given the reactions I saw on social media, I think it would be safe to choose the rise that works best on your body and go with that.
Styling Denim This Season
We’ve talked about this season’s general silhouettes, washes and rises, now it’s time to chat about styling and silhouette. We are still seeing oversized silhouettes on the runway and on social media, but for most women, a casual model-off-duty look will prevail. The look would include your favorite denim, whether mom jeans or a barrel leg style, and a white button-down. Another look that is already gaining in popularity is the Canadian tuxedo; jeans and a denim jacket, or denim shirt. This look creates a flattering all one color–or almost–some wear a lighter color denim shirt or jacket. It has a chic and slimming effect.
Summer Denim Trends
Summer denim trends include hot pants, denim shorts cut very short, as well as mid length shorts styled with tank tops, white t-shirts and button-down shirts. We will also be seeing lots of denim maxi skirts shown in darker washes.
Shoes to Wear With Jeans
When it comes footwear to wear with jeans, we are going with classic styles such as a pair of sneakers, ballet flats or a pair of heels. This season we are seeing a more polished lady like look, as well as the classic sporty look we’ve seen in prior seasons. The loafer is also making a comeback, and are a fun alternative to sneakers.
When it comes to denim, we all have strong opinions, and what makes denim so important is that it is a very versatile fabric. There are so many different styles and no just one must-have style. That is what is most important to keep in mind when thinking about jeans trends.
