There is nothing like a crisp fall weekend! Cool-weather, colored leaves plus an activity, and you have magic. While we are still doing math—sweaters plus jeans plus booties or a fall-toned dress plus sweater and booties—are always winning equations. Let’s call it the Anders Indumentum Theorem.
One of my favorite fall memories was going to Rochester Cider Mill with my dad. Back in the day, they sold fresh cinnamon sugar donuts, still warm, and fresh apple cider—you could watch the mill at work, and, there were little picnic tables nestled in the woodland ablaze with color. You could sit, sip cider, and soak in fall’s glory. Today, the mill has much more to offer and is a fun place to visit each fall.
My father loved doing things like that—creating experiences—and taking time to savor each season. I made sure I dressed for each occasion and on that day, I wore a beautiful plaid button-up with golden lurex threads running through, a long creamy duster, and flair jeans. They were all the rage back then, just as they are now.
We lived in a picturesque little town, and in the fall, everyone was scurrying about in their blazers, big cozy sweaters, and stylish boots. We enjoyed tailgate parties, high school football games watched from rickety bleachers with hot chocolate from a thermos and big plaid blankets across our knees.
Hearty soups, braised short ribs, and chili make their way onto the menu, along with cornbread and apple crisp. So good! Fun to make on the weekend and enjoy reheating during the week.
Fast forward to now—In just a few days it will officially be fall! Now is the perfect time to start thinking about cute outfits to wear as the weather cools and you have the opportunity to make weekend memories.
I love wearing cute outfits around the house and running errands over the weekend. How does my weekend look differ from day to day? I spend most of the work week at home working. I wear cute “at home” clothes. The weekend is usually when we meet up with friends, host gatherings, or, take in the fall scenery at places like the Rochester Cider Mill. Now is the time to think about what to wear, do and see.
Let’s start with what to wear.
I am a dress girl through and through, so I wanted to build a weekend look around a casual dress in a fall tone—a perfect canvas for a variety of fall looks. With a pretty slip dress, you have many options. On a warm fall day, it can be worn on its own, with a sweater thrown over your shoulders. As the days get cooler, you can wear it with a beautiful cashmere turtleneck underneath, or a boxy sweater over top. A leather jacket and a pair of booties take the dress into cool weather.
My second go-to look for fall centers around a pair of classic dark wash jeans—yes, I know that light wash is the rage this year—but it’s not my personal style—you can definitely choose whatever type of jeans you love, a beautiful sweater and when it gets really cool here, a blazer or leather jacket.
Going with tradition, I love wools, houndstooth, plaid, and suede-a mix of textures really helps set a cozy mood.
Let’s not stop there! Accessories really set the scene. Adding a hat and scarf—gloves,…
Be sure to read my post on how to style boots and jeans and jeans and a blazer here.
What to do:
Do a little clean of the porch and yard—add fresh fall plants and a few fall touches to your porch and entryway. It is surprising—especially here in Florida, how many people don’t clean their entryway and get rid of cobwebs, leaves, dirt, and old bug nests.
We always start fall with a little home decor-candles, cozy throws, and a few decor items that evoke fall vibes. I love filling fesses with fall flowers, and branches. I also love pinecones in a bowl or dried oranges. We also need to add a little scent to the mixture—it’s time for spicy fall scents to add to the equation.
Invite friends around for lunch—a hearty chili, cornbread, and a salad with fall’s bounty of nuts, berries, and cheese.
Light the fire pit, grab some cozy pillows and blankets, make dolled-up s’mores, and tell ghost stories.
Enjoy a rainy day at home with a great soup and your favorite music. I just love enjoying rainy days at home.
Host a leaf raking party,—make cleaning up and preparing for winter fun—serve lovely lunch and maybe a delicious apple pie or a rich pumpkin bread.
Make a date with a friend to have your first pumpkin spice latte, and decorate your home with colored leaves, pinecones, and acorns.

Fall Candle
If you are looking to move away from gourmand scents this fall, have I got a gorgeous scent for you. It’s beautiful and unexpected…
Where to go:
A brunch destination nestled in the woodlands, a high school or college football game, catch up with friends and host a picnic by a lake, a road trip to a bed and breakfast—where you can look for antiques, and soak in the crisp air. (I love browsing in antique shops—so often toys and household items from our generation are on offer—and it brings back memories even if you aren’t interested in buying anything.
Fall weekends needn’t be just for running errands, let your fall weekend be a memory maker.
It’s Time For Stylish Monday
Amy – Amy’s Creative Pursuits – Weekends are all about church, family, and friends for me. This is an outfit I wore both to church in the morning and then later in the evening for an outdoor dining experience with my family in the hills of Buffalo County.
Suzanne – Ask Suzanne Bell – When the weekend comes, I like to throw on a comfortable easy outfit that can take me from running errands to watching the kid’s events – all in one. If it’s hot, I’ll always opt for a relaxed fitting maxi dress. Otherwise, it’s jeans or joggers like this pair by Electric Rose, paired with a tank, and ALWAYS a long cardigan. A weekend wardrobe essential (bonus for pockets!); I’m styling up long cardigans in multiple ways, in today’s Style Post.
Andy – Pearls and Pantsuits Since I have to dress up and show up for work during the week, the weekend is my time to dress down and stay comfy, which usually means a casual dress and sneakers for running my errands and puttering around the house. Comfort is key!
Nicole – High Latitude Style – On weekends, I change my outfit several times a day. After breakfast in PJ and taking a shower, I put my old blue jeans on with a Tee, scarf, or vest, to mow the lawn with a push mower or do some yard work. Then I change into a dress and sandals for shopping and running errands. In winter, shoveling the driveway, ice picking, and add a down coat and pom hat with gloves. For shopping, tall boots and tights plus a down coat or shearling with matching scarf, gloves, and hat. However, when going out dancing on a weekend I wear one of my dance dresses like this velvet beauty.
Emma – The Style Splash -.Comfort is key when it comes to weekend dressing for me. These loose-fitting trousers have an elasticated waistband so are super comfy, but it still looks like I’ve made the effort thanks to the leopard print. I live in trainers or flat sandals at weekends as I’m often shopping and running errands.
Julie – Fashion Trends and Friends and Instagram FashionTandF – Weekend dressing can be a mixed bag depending on what I’m up to and where we’re going. I recently wore this lookout to dinner and to see a band with my hubby on a date night. If we’re staying home, I’m typically in something much more casual like shorts and a tee or sweatpants and a sweatshirt depending on our Illinois weather.
Shelbee – Shelbee on the Edge – My weekend wardrobe doesn’t differ much from my weekday wardrobe but I do opt for comfort above all things on the weekends. A fun tee shirt dress, sneakers, and a baseball cap is an easy combination for most of my weekend activities.
Lucy – Lucy Bertoldi.com I don’t really have a particular look for weekends…except that whatever I decide to wear must have some sort of fun or pizzazz to it. Dressing sets my mood- and I definitely need some good dopamine styling! So here I am in my favorite jeans…the sparkle does it all for lighting me up whether it’s doing the regular Saturday runs, meeting up with a friend, or even a date night. This weekend leisure look is for running errands!
Joy – Joyous Styling A fun weekend look….Florals are coming in strong for Fall! This blouse is so fabulous for $14.00! It can be worn casually or for business! I love it with my gold belt and red denim jeans.

Hi Nina! I love your ideas on how to make more out of fall. I do tend to make weekends about catching up and running errands, but you’re correct in saying that there is so much more to take advantage of and enjoy! What a gorgeous dress on you as well, I love how you styled it.

[…] Finding dresses in fall tones that can be worn in different ways—such as a slip dress style that can be worn with a jacket or sweater on a cool day, or with a t-shirt. This type of dress is super versatile. I love a dress with boots in the fall. This dress was super popular from a fall weekend outfit post. […]
