Faux Leather? Pleather? Vegan Leather? There was a time that no one would consider wearing or using products that were, well…fake…no fake, or faux for me, thank you very much! And now, I am having a complete ball wearing and styling faux leather leggings.
Before spending $100 on a “good” pair, I wanted to be sure I felt comfortable wearing faux leather. I mean, after all, I’m a menopausal woman, and nothing can be quite as uncomfortable as being wrapped in unbreathable fabric. Am I right? Truth is, I do find my faux leather pants uncomfortable when I have a hot flash. But that doesn’t stop me from wearing them from time to time.
I also wanted to be sure I’d enjoy wearing the style—legging trends come and go quickly—I’ve worn flocked , velvet, and super shiny leggings as well as matte black ones. I’ve even tried a print. Anyway, I purchased this pair from Target of $15, two seasons ago, and they are still holding up, and in rotation. I don’t wear them super often, I’m not completely in love, but I do have fun with them once in a while.
For the first look, I pared my faux leggings with an open toe bootie, cropped trench and scarf, all in neutral classic tones. Under the trench, I had a black cashmere turtle neck tunic to create that classic column look. I’m really loving the classics this season, with a subtle twist, of course.
The next look I call racy leopard. I decided to invest in a fun faux leopard jacket to go with my faux leather pants…and of course you have to do the stilettos if you are going to do a look like that. It’s a really fun look for date night, don’t you think?
The way I’m most likely to wear my leather leggings day to day is with a big soft sweater—like this cashmere tunic. Like white blouses, I simply can’t get enough of off white sweaters. I jazzed up the look with a pair of leopard flats—the look is comfortable, soft and pulled together. I usually wear something like this at home, mostly.
Earlier this season, I put my pleather leggings to work with my J.Jill poncho, which I have been enjoying with the little belt bag to give it a little extra.
Since I’ve been enjoying my vegan leather leggings (have you noticed I am still not really sure what to call the fabric?) I am looking to try a better pair, and I have just the friends to give me the 411 on more styling and the best of pleather leggings. I love the outfit with the trench and scarf. Really nice. It’ really is funny how it used to be that nobody would buy “fake” fur or leather, but now it’s the thing to do. I think faux versions have really improved and it’s nice that it’s become more in vogue to be ecologically and cruelty conscious.

Thank you for joining our group Andrea! I look forward to getting to know you!
It makes me feel a little rebellious to wear my pair, Nina!! And I think we all need that from time to time…

This would be a great theme for you and your moms!
I bought a “cheap” pair of faux leather leggings at JCP years ago and I’m surprised how much I actually wear them. They are a mix of leather and ponte knit, so they are more breathable and easier to wear. I’ve had to re-sew them several times, especially around the belt loops from tugging them up, as they are cheap and tear easily. I love all the ways you styled yours.
I’m thinking of going for the Spanx at this point. I’ve had this pair for the past two seasons, and I’m still wearing them so I’m thinking that having a nicer pair might be in order. Thank you for stopping by!
I finally caved and bought the Spanx Faux Leather leggings this year. They are really good. Very comfy and flattering. Love your options for styling them.
I think I’m going to do the Spanx too. Not sure which style to choose-did you get the classic or try one of the other styles?
Hi Nina! What a fun collaboration this was, it really shows the versatility of this elevated fashion staple. I love how you styled yours in a classic chic way, all 4 of your looks are so wearable, chic and cover any occasion – that with a $15 investment! WOW!
I adore that belt bag styled over the poncho, I never would have thought of that, but it is so fresh looking!
Have a fabulous weekend!
xx

Thank you so much for hosting this month. It was getting a little overwhelming for me to do all the stuff I’ve got going right now. It seems like people enjoyed seeing lots of leggings styles.
Leather leggings (real or faux) are such a winter must-have for me. I love how you’ve styled yours, especially with the ivory cable-knit sweater—I want to try a look like that with mine!

I’ve been wanting to try some faux leather leggings, thank you for the great classic outfit ideas that will make experimenting with them comfortable!
Also, try them at a lower price point before springing for an expensive pair—that way you will know how many things you can style them with and whether you actually wear them.
I’ve so enjoyed your style here – love the leopard faux fur jacket and the belted jacket look the most – so chic and fabulous! xx
Thank you so much Maria!

Thank you so much!
I love my faux leggings. I find that spring and autumn are the times to wear them in the UK. They are not warm enough for winter and too hot for summer.
Here in Florida, leggings are best in the winter—way to hot for any other time of year.
[…] so I won’t rehash the “don’ts” of leggings; but I will link my prior leggings post here (https://sharingajourney.com/pleather/) and […]

I love all the ways you’ve styled your vegan, faux leather, leggings (Lol!). I tend to wear my Spanx version with a longer sweater or tunic as they do tend to show everything!
