Styling Faux Leather Leggings

11/20/2020 · In: Over 50 Fashion

Faux Leather? Pleather? Vegan Leather? There was a time that no one would consider wearing or using products that were, well…fake…no fake, or faux for me, thank you very much! And now, I am having a complete ball wearing and styling faux leather leggings.

Before spending $100 on a “good” pair, I wanted to be sure I felt comfortable wearing faux leather. I mean, after all, I’m a menopausal woman, and nothing can be quite as uncomfortable as being wrapped in unbreathable fabric. Am I right? Truth is, I do find my faux leather pants uncomfortable when I have a hot flash. But that doesn’t stop me from wearing them from time to time.

I also wanted to be sure I’d enjoy wearing the style—legging trends come and go quickly—I’ve worn flocked , velvet, and super shiny leggings as well as matte black ones. I’ve even tried a print. Anyway, I purchased this pair from Target of $15, two seasons ago, and they are still holding up, and in rotation. I don’t wear them super often, I’m not completely in love, but I do have fun with them once in a while.

For the first look, I pared my faux leggings with an open toe bootie, cropped trench and scarf, all in neutral classic tones. Under the trench, I had a black cashmere turtle neck tunic to create that classic column look.  I’m really loving the classics this season, with a subtle twist, of course.

The next look I call racy leopard. I decided to invest in a fun faux leopard jacket to go with my faux leather pants…and of course you have to do the stilettos if you are going to do a look like that.  It’s a really fun look for date night, don’t you think?

The way I’m most likely to wear my leather leggings day to day is with a big soft sweater—like this cashmere tunic. Like white blouses, I simply can’t get enough of off white sweaters. I jazzed up the look with a pair of leopard flats—the look is comfortable, soft and pulled together.  I usually wear something like this at home, mostly.

Earlier this season, I put my pleather leggings to work with my J.Jill poncho, which I have been enjoying with the little belt bag to give it a little extra.

Since I’ve been enjoying my vegan leather leggings (have you noticed I am still not really sure what to call the fabric?) I am looking to try a better pair, and I have just the friends to give me the 411 on more styling and the best of pleather leggings. For more styling ideas as well as which are the best to try, be sure to check out the posts below.

Suzanne Bell, of www.asksuzannebell.com is always super chic.  I love the combination of cozy scarf and taupe knit  tunic over leather leggings and booties.  I’m always inspired by her classic, eclectic style and attention to details,  check out her little leopard clutch!  To visit Suzanne simply click the image above.

Andrea of Andrea’s Wellnessnotes.com mixes texture, pattern and color in this look with mixed media knit, shiny leggings and suede booties.  The combination highlights her sweater beautifully.  Click on the image to visit Andrea.

Julie from www.fashiontrendsandfriends.com is rocking an edgy look with her grey camo shirt, studded moto jacket and leggings.  It’s fun  for weekends and great for date night as well.  Click on the image above to get the details on this look from Fashion Trends and Friends.

I love it when my blogging buddies and I get together and challenge each other to style looks, it’s a blast to see what everyone comes up with.  I hope you are as inspired as I am–I see tan suede leggings and an upgrade to my leggings in my future.  How about you?  Let me know how you style leggings.

I love the outfit with the trench and scarf. Really nice. It’ really is funny how it used to be that nobody would buy “fake” fur or leather, but now it’s the thing to do. I think faux versions have really improved and it’s nice that it’s become more in vogue to be ecologically and cruelty conscious.

I bought a “cheap” pair of faux leather leggings at JCP years ago and I’m surprised how much I actually wear them. They are a mix of leather and ponte knit, so they are more breathable and easier to wear. I’ve had to re-sew them several times, especially around the belt loops from tugging them up, as they are cheap and tear easily. I love all the ways you styled yours.

I’m thinking of going for the Spanx at this point. I’ve had this pair for the past two seasons, and I’m still wearing them so I’m thinking that having a nicer pair might be in order. Thank you for stopping by!

I think I’m going to do the Spanx too. Not sure which style to choose-did you get the classic or try one of the other styles?

Hi Nina! What a fun collaboration this was, it really shows the versatility of this elevated fashion staple. I love how you styled yours in a classic chic way, all 4 of your looks are so wearable, chic and cover any occasion – that with a $15 investment! WOW!
I adore that belt bag styled over the poncho, I never would have thought of that, but it is so fresh looking!
    Have a fabulous weekend!

Thank you so much for hosting this month. It was getting a little overwhelming for me to do all the stuff I’ve got going right now. It seems like people enjoyed seeing lots of leggings styles.

Leather leggings (real or faux) are such a winter must-have for me. I love how you’ve styled yours, especially with the ivory cable-knit sweater—I want to try a look like that with mine!

Also, try them at a lower price point before springing for an expensive pair—that way you will know how many things you can style them with and whether you actually wear them.

I love my faux leggings. I find that spring and autumn are the times to wear them in the UK. They are not warm enough for winter and too hot for summer.

Here in Florida, leggings are best in the winter—way to hot for any other time of year.

I've been making a point to spend a lot less time I've been making a point to spend a lot less time on screens this year. It's been amazing how much free time I have to enjoy new hobbies and spending time with friends and family. I even tried my hand at painting with a Time For Art kit and actually made this sweet dolphin painting. I was surprised how easy it was even for someone like me who has very little painting experience. I loved how the kits came with everything I needed to make the painting, and I when I needed help, I watched a video on the Time for Art website. I thought it would be fun to host some friends for a girls painting night, invitations are in the mail--plus it would make a perfect gift. Be sure to check out @timeforartlive--I will link all their info in my link tree.
