Like jeans, leggings play a huge role in our wardrobes, especially as we head into the cooler months. Leggings are incredibly comfortable and versatile; I’ve worn them for so many years, I don’t know what I’d do without them, especially at home, which is where I wear them most.
I’ve written a few thought on styling leggings in prior posts, so I won’t rehash the “don’ts” of leggings; but I will link my prior leggings post here (https://sharingajourney.com/pleather/) and https://sharingajourney.com/leggings-to-work/
So what’s new with leggings this season?
- More pleather. With Spanx pleather leggings being such a hit last year, you can imagine that leggings manufacturers would be working hard to keep the train moving. This year the shine is back from the 1980s so if you loved the look back then, you can dig out your old leggings and give them another spin.
- Velvet and flocking will also be big. I’ve seen several brand some out with gorgeous jewel tone velvet leggings and as we’ve seen from a few years ago, flocked leggings can be very beautiful, especially during the holidays.
- Camouflage monotone leggings are another huge hit again this year, in fact, I was thinking of adding a pair to my collection. I’m super boring, I only have black in my drawer right now. I am going to change that, soon.
- Moto details are another variation to look for this season as a carry over from last year as well. If you love edgy style, this is the look for you.
Footwear:
As for styling leggings, booties, combat boots and knee high boots are the rage, and look amazing with leggings. We are seeing riding boots, and a very wide shaft almost like a stove pipe on boots this year. (I personally won’t be wearing them as I have the skinniest calves and legs. It would just look crazy on me. ) Though I am eyeing riding boots right now, and will likely be making some purchases in the next week or so.
Tops:
Tunics and long shirts with a shorter sweater layered over are really cute for styling leggings; I always like my top to be a minimum of four inches below my hip, so if I am wearing a shorter sweater, I do like a longer blouse underneath. I also love this season’s dusters and statement coats worn with leggings and knee high boots.
The first Monday of the month is Stylish Monday, so I’m sharing the stage with several blogger friends who are also sharing their ideas around styling leggings, what types and brands they like. I hope you’ll stop by their blogs so you can get the complete 411 on all things leggings this season.

Thank you Emma! You should definitely get a pair of Spanx leggings. I got the faux leather ones last year. our buddy Suzanne (www.asksuzannebell.com) suggested I get them and I loved them so much that I ordered the jeans and now the trousers. I am also considering the camp and Moto styles to add to my winter collection. They hold you in in all the right places, and everyone looks amazing in them.
These are such great looks. Especially loving the leggings paired with the blue sweater. Such a beautiful shade of blue!
Ellibelle’s Corner
Thank you so much, Ellibelle! I got the sweater from a really cool company called The Peruvian Connection out of the UK, they do have stores in the US as well. They still offer this sweater, though in different colors this year. thank you so much for your kind words.
