Let’s chat about eight wardrobe essentials to add to your wardrobe or upgrade now.
Perhaps this season isn’t going to be the one to go all out, perhaps this season is the one to quietly upgrade your basics. That’s the strategy I am pursuing; investing in pieces that can be worn for seasons to come, and can be dressed up or down.
After a massive closet clearcut last November, I am editing my wardrobe on an ongoing basis. As I replace and replenish my wardrobe, I am doing so strategically.
I thought I’d share some of my thoughts and strategies for rebuilding my wardrobe this year:
Everyone needs a good white T-shirt or two.
The last t-shirts I bought were from Target. They stood the test of time; most lasted for five years or more, but over time they’ve pilled-I know now I probably should have let them air dry. Anyway, I decided I wanted something that looked a little more polished and a little less like my boyfriend’s undershirts, so here are a few shirts I’ve been loving lately:
We also need black or navy…
I’ve been preferring navy with my skin tone lately, but having a couple of good quality black and/or navy t-shirts should also be on your list, if you don’t already have them.
Noticing what I reach for time and time again brought me to adding a few good button down shirts to my collection.
I love my blue and white stripe button down, it’s a great year around piece, so I decided to add two more button downs to my collection. With an eye toward quality, I chose Brooks Brothers, knowing that the shirts would last and are made specially to stay looking fresh. That’s one thing about button downs; they can easily look rumpled if they don’t fit properly and aren’t made well.
I also love turtleneck sweaters, and for months had been looking for a nice cashmere in a cream color.
The price point was quite high, so I waited, and just recently, the one I had my eye on finally went on sale. I figured that if it didn’t, I’d just wait until next year.
Jackets and cardigans “make” an outfit
So I have been very intentional about adding blazers and jackets to my wardrobe. I added a Veronica Beard blazer to my collection, and plan to add some of the dickeys later in the fall. Bush jackets are also a fresh look to consider for spring and summer.
High rise jeans or flairs.
It is time we change up jeans and I am here to tell you that I am reveling in the new shapes we are seeing this year.
Lace Cami’s are also a great choice
Like the the silk kimono a few years back, lace camis can be worn out and about, and when they are no longer trending, you can still enjoy them at home.
I’ve added these wardrobe essentials to my closet, little by little so far this year, and have spent more time playing with the clothes I already have making fresh looks. From what I gather, I am not alone in taking a longer view this season. I will be adding a few sundresses, but for now, my list is shorter rather than longer.
