One of my favorite go-to items, when I want a casual yet elevated look, is flair jeans.  I love how they make my legs look long, and my pear shape figure look lean, especially when I wear a high waist, dark wash style with pair of platform shoes.   So put away your mom jeans and get yourself into a pair of flairs–they are the best jeans I own.   The best part about this trend is that it’s perfect no matter what age you decide to rock them. When it comes to fashion, age is just a number. Older women today want to look stylish and confident, irrespective of their age. As a woman over 50, your wardrobe should reflect your personal style and preferences, but it can be challenging to know where to start when it comes to a statement look. ​Choosing the right jeans:

When it comes to choosing the perfect pair of jeans for your body type, there are several cuts to choose from, including straight-leg jeans, boyfriend jeans, boot-cut jeans, and of course the old standby, skinny jeans.  Each of these styles enhances certain body types and if you are one who loves fashion trends, you likely have several styles in your wardrobe.  When it comes to color, having black jeans, white jeans, and a few different washes is a great way to have several options and keep a modern look.

Flair-leg pants create the illusion of long legs, especially high rise styles.  Flairs vary slightly from bootcut jeans as they are a little wider starting at the knee leading down to the foot.  Both a boot cut and a flair are very flattering.  Be sure to try both to see which works best for you.  If you like a relaxed fit, you may want to move to wide leg pants, which are sometimes mistaken for flared jeans.  A wide leg widens at the hip and maintains the width from the hip to the foot rather than widening at the knee.  

When choosing the right fit, you also have to consider the rise.  High-rise jeans hit at the belly button or slightly below, mid rise jeans fall a hand width below the belly button, and low-rise jeans are about a hand’s width above the pubic bone.  Each rise creates a different look and this is good news for an older woman–modern jeans are the most flattering jeans around.  If you are short-waisted, you will want a lower rise to elongate your torso.  If you have a pear shape or hourglass figure you will like mid to high-rise jeans or pants.  

Next, consider the quality of the jeans you plan to buy.  Because jeans are worn frequently, I like to invest in a good pair of jeans because I wear them so frequently.

Styling Flair Jeans: 

Keep it Simple: One of the easiest ways to style flare jeans is by sticking to simple tops that don’t add too much volume to your look. You can pair your jeans with a classic white T-shirt or a striped shirt. A black turtleneck with a cropped jacket can also give you a chic and sophisticated look. Keep the outfit monochromatic or in neutral colors to avoid overwhelming your look. Accessorize with a sleek, minimalist clutch, and you’re good to go!

Embrace Your Bohemian Side: Flare jeans look great with bohemian-style tops, such as flowy kimonos or embroidered blouses. You can add some jewelry to the mix, such as long necklaces or chandelier earrings, to complete the bohemian look. A pair of sandals or cowboy boots can finish off your outfit in style.

Layer It Up: Layering your tops and jackets can give your outfit a smart look. Try a fitted top with a loose blazer or cardigan-style jacket to give your outfit a sleek finish. Or pair your jeans with a button-down shirt for a chic and casual look.  Remember, you don’t have to wear tight clothes to look stylish- embrace your body and dress in what feels comfortable and flattering, no matter your size.  This type of look is great with ankle boots, especially those with a pointed toe.
