The 8 Summer Essentials You Need this Year

It seems as if we have gone from the cool weather of late winter to summer in one step!  We’ve passed Memorial Day, it’s already getting humid here and we’ve had temperatures in the 90’s.  I’m definitely in summer mode now so I thought it would be the perfect time to dig out my sun dresses, sunscreens and hats to talk about this years summer essentials.  

2020 Summer Essentials:

Now you all know I’m a dress girl through and through, but I ordered an essential even I was shocked by:  gym shorts.  I am not a huge shorts wearer. I have three pair, all of which have a dressy vibe and I rarely wear them.  Why oh why would I have ordered gym shorts then?  

Because I am walking outside as exercise more.  In years past we went to the rink and worked out there or at the gym near our home.  We have not returned to the rink nor the gym as yet. But I have discovered that the one pair of gym shorts I currently own are not enough.  I found these cute high waisted shorts on Amazon and now have a couple of pair in rotation. 

I am a hat girl though, and plan to add a new hat to my collection.  I will be getting even more wear from hats this year because we will be dining outside more, and of course a lady needs a hat for that! Shop this hat Here

I tried and fell in love with DIFF Sunglasses and promptly lost the pair that came in my Rachel Zo spring box of style.  Yes, yes I did.  The first day I wore them out.  We had gone to the botanical gardens to take pictures and low and behold, when we got home, I realized they were no longer with me.  I plan to order another pair post haste. I ordered two pair of Steve Madden Slides so I will shut up about them now!  I got two pair of the Botgeta dupes.  I got the first pair in February and wore them so much I ordered them in black as well.  This style comes in a variety of heel heights, and look amazing with summer dresses as well as jeans and trousers.  They are really good. I’ve shared my love of Dmtology sunscreen; I happen to like it better than Elta MD; for daily wear under makeup, but there are two other types of sunscreen we all need in our arsenal, powder for touch ups and for completely lazy days, sunscreen in foundation or moisturizer.

Everyone needs a pretty summer bag, and there are several new bags trending right now.  For one, the bucket bag is back, and it’s trending like mad in lucite! Otherwise, one can never go wrong with a classic straw bag. Shop this super cute lucite bag here.

Pretty face masks are a thing; when I first started looking for cloth face masks, I found lots of solid colors and comic prints, but we’ve come a long way in a couple of short months.  I ordered a pack of five white masks made from a special fabric from Brooks Brothers (who are also making PPE), and  a pack of five beautiful silk masks from Jonny Was. Now when I plan an outfit, I consider which mask I will wear with it as a part of the overall look.

They eyes have it in 2020!  Since masks will likely cover our mouths for months to come, our eyes will play the leading role in make up.   I’ve been focusing on eye shadows and eye makeup lately.  Though I favor neutrals, there are lots of neutrals out there.  If you would like to ckeck out a review of my favorites, Here is a YouTube video for you.
