Finding makeup brands for women with mature skin can be a challenge. Once we hit our middle years so many things change, from our skin tone, coloring, skin texture, and our skin’s moisture level. I woke up one day, and none of my favorite makeup seemed to work.
Over the past several years, I have been on a mission to find the best makeup products for mature skin—products that keep my skin looking great while keeping skin problems like blemishes and rosacea at bay. I have gone from oily skin to “normal” with an oily T-zone in the summer. Where I once looked for mattifying products, I now moisturize and sometimes even look to add a little glow.
This mission has led me to try all sorts of makeup products from drug stores to high-end products. While I have found a few gems at the drug store, the products I reach for day in and day out are in the luxury category. One brand I have been loving is Charlotte Tilbury. I have hit a home run with almost every product I have tried though I have come across a few duds as well.
Charlotte Tilbury is a makeup artist hailing from the United Kingdom, and is known for her feminine, ethereal makeup looks. Her products enhance a woman’s coloring without overwhelming her. Good skin and light glowing blushes, seamless bronzers, and one of the best, if not the best powders on the market.
The colors are designed to bring out our eye color, make our skin look flawless, and create a healthy glow. I don’t like to waste money, especially on high-end makeup, but with this line, I have had very few disappointments.
The Best of Charlotte Tilbury
Airbrush Flawless FinishPowder: I always keep a backup of this powder in my stash. It smooths my large pores without caking, it works well with every foundation I’ve used it with and creates a perfected glow I just can’t describe. My friend Mary, who doesn’t wear foundation at all, loves this powder also-it perfects without a trace, even on bare skin. This is a definite must-have.
AirBrush Bronzer: I thought I had found the perfect bronzer with Marc Jacobs, but Charlotte’s Airbrush Bronzer wins hands down. It is the perfect warm shade, it blends seamlessly into the skin, it comes in a very large container and you can purchase refills—speaking of which, I definitely need a refill. I wear this bronzer every.single.day.
PillowTalk—The shade, the products, OMG. My obsession with PillowTalk started when a makeup artist at Nordstrom recommended it to me. As she worked on another customer, she looked at me and said “Pillow Talk. It is the perfect color for you.” I have gone through three lipsticks and one eye shadow palette. I always have a Pillow Talk lipstick and lipliner in my purse. My latest favorite is this addition to the Pillow Talk Line.
Chic to Cheek Blush: I am on my third Chic to Cheek blush, it’s that blush with the circle in the middle–it’s a two-in-one blush. You can use the colors separately, or blend them together. I love the natural-looking glow I get,–not too much–not too little color.
Look in a Palette: I have had two of these great palettes. I love them because you get all the Charlotte Tilbury goodnes in a perfect travel size–or if you are a makeup minimalist- this palette, a couple of brushes, foundation, concealer and a lipstick is all you need to make a bunch of beautoful looks from natural to dramatic. You can use the bronzer and cheek color on your eyes to make a monochromatic look, you can use the eye shadows alone or together, and she includes her Flawless Finish Powder which I think is totally amazing.
Charlotte’s Magic Cream
Now I’ve shared with you my favorites, but there are a few products that were a little disappointing—I would proceed with caution on these items
- Colour Chameleon Eyeshadow pencils: I received one of these pencils as a gift with purchase from a sale a few years ago. I found it didn’t blend at all well, the product seemed dried out and crumbly. Maybe it was old, maybe it got ruined somehow but these were not for me. I prefer Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks to these.
- I know that people swear by The Hollywood Flawless Filter, but I was glad I purchased the sample size. You can use it under makeup or over makeup. I’ve tried both ways. I found it hard to blend into my makeup. I still use it from time to time, but it is not a favorite.
- Airbrush Flawless Foundation: This full coverage foundation is either loved or hated, so I decided to try it for myself, and obtained a sample. It did not play nice with my textured, mature skin. My large pores were emphasized, and the product was thick and looked heavy on my skin. One of the things I’ve noticed as I have aged is that full-coverage makeup doesn’t tend to look as good on my mature skin.
On My To-Try List
Chalotte has come out with a bunch of new products, and one I am really interested in trying is the Sunkissed Beauty Glow Kit.
Are you a Charlotte Tilbury fan? Which products do you like best and which should I add to my list to try?
