We are coming on Valentine’s Day, and like some of you, I’m thinking about what to wear for our special day. Some years, we’ve done a cozy night in, while others we’ve gone out and made a splash of it. A long time ago, I learned that major holidays are not the best time to go out to eat; restaurants are packed and the food is often just so-so because of the increased volume—sometimes they even hire on extra staff to help, so the service can suffer as well. Because of this, we choose to stay home and go out before or after. (We do this for New Years as well).
This year, I’m feeling the going out vibe because I just got a beautiful jumpsuit from Reiss which I’ve worn only twice so far. Styling options abound with simple elegant pieces such as a jumpsuit or a LBD. You know the moment it skims your body that its special; you can just feel it. That’s what happened when I put on the jumpsuit; I immediately began planning dates for Roger and me.
You can never go wrong with a black jumpsuit; for day, I’ve pared it with a moto jacket, a little edgy with star earrings, a gold belt and tote.

Our first date with the jumpsuit was Les Mis. I wore it with my grandmother’s evening jacket. I have a couple of pieces my grandmother made back in the day, they add a certain something I think. When I put the jacket on over my jumpsuit, it looked as if it were made to go together. The look was perfect for a cool evening in Florida

The second wearing was to the Influencers of Midlife conference. We had a reception at Soft Surroundings, so I wore it with Soft Surroundings jacket, (they sent it as a gift for me to wear at the event) currently on sale on the Soft Surroundings website. Soft Surroundings always has beautiful wraps and jackets that can be dressed up or down.

I can see this jacket worn with distressed jeans for a casual date night, or with velvet trousers over the holidays. I also love the color palette, festive yet can be worn all year long. I added a belt I purchased in the 1990’s; it seemed to complement the vibe and the color palette of the jacket, pulling it all together. Be sure to keep your eye out for versatile pieces like this, and like I said, Soft Surroundings is a great place to find beautiful wraps and jackets like this one.
I very specifically chose not to feature red for these Valentine’s date night looks. I wanted something I could wear on date nights year around. As we head toward summer, I will be looking to wear my jumpsuit with a simple belt; and statement earrings and perhaps a shawl. That’s all it takes sometimes.

I’d like to take a moment to introduce you to Susanne Thompson of Thompsonhill Blog (www.thompsonhillblog.com) who reached out a few weeks ago and asked if I’d like to do a Valentines Day Date Night challenge and I was thrilled to! You look stunning! Love the black jumpsuit!! Thanks for sharing with me today, sweet friend!!
That jumpsuit is absolutely gorgeous!!It looks so great on you. I really like the idea of a black ensemble for Valentine’s Day. Lots or red and Pink sometimes come off as a little cliche.

You look lovely in this black jumpsuit and I think it’s so smart to get a classic, timeless piece like this as opposed to getting on the “red” wagon. And yes, to celebrating before of after the holidays. The crowds are too much! 🙂
Your Grandmothers evening jacket is absolutely gorgeous!!! I’d buy one like that in a heart beat. She is so talented. Love your classy jumpsuit. Have a wonderful Valentines Day xx
Great looks. I can’t get my head around logistics as i always go to the rest room once at least when I’m out.
Wow, such a beautiful classic piece Nina. I love the jumpsuit on you and how you can style it with such versatility. Love that blazer with the faux fur, and the colors of that SS blazer look wonderful too!
