What life looks like now, and how I am dressing for it.
In some ways, my life has changed very little. I get up, I spend time doing my morning routine, then I work, mainly from home. I am alone a lot and used to spending long periods of time working and writing. However, in other ways, our lives have changed a lot.
On Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, Roger and I used to go to the ice skating rink to skate. After, we’d meet up with friends, do a little shopping, or perhaps go out to lunch. I’d pop down to St. Petersburg where I have a construction project underway. We’d go to the grocery store on Saturdays, and to the gym near our home. We’d head over to the trail in the afternoons for a walk, and I’d go on recon missions to the mall to see what’s new. Oh, and there was always date night, and boy did we have some wonderful date nights to dress for.
Now we shop every other week, and just started food delivery; we get our first order tonight. We walk in the neighborhood, since all the parks and trails have been closed. I try to work out at home or in the pool, but I’m realizing that I sort of need a slightly different wardrobe, if you can believe it, and I’ve had a bit of a challenge procuring said clothing items.
First, my opportunity to get dressed up are clearly very limited. While I do put on regular clothing most days, the degree to which I get dressed up each day is, well less. Second, I am doing slightly different things than before. It may surprise you to know that we spend six months mainly in doors due to the heat, so I don’t really have clothes for being out doors in the spring and summer. Since our only sources of exercise are the pool, walking and working out at home, I find myself in need of comfortable clothes to wear walking in 90 degree weather.
We started walking last November as it was getting cooler, so leggings were the perfect choice, and I have plenty. However, now that our temperatures have soared to 90 degrees, and some sort of workout type shorts are definitely in order. Only, I have been struggling to procure them. I decided that I want to try to source clothing from American or sustainable companies, and gosh are they hard to come by!
Interestingly, I had difficulty finding workout shorts on Amazon, where I noticed some interesting things. First, many offerings were sold out completely in my size. I was a little surprised as most people haven’t really started shopping for spring/summer. Some of the Amazon partners were listing themselves as American companies, but when I checked the fine print, I discovered that they were in fact importers. One seller had added American flags to their page, but on closer inspection it was definitely an overseas distributer. Meanwhile, even Target was out of pull on workout shorts in my size!
I finally found and ordered a pair of shorts, so I have one pair to wash and one to wear for your daily walks for the time being. This morning, I began thinking of other things I could press into duty such as tennis skirts and the one tennis dress I have. I am also looking at some of my sun dresses as possibilities as well. Wearing a sundress for an evening walk may seem a bit extra, but I think that it might just make me feel good, so when I run out of shorts, I plan to give them a go.
While indoors, I have been wearing white jeans, blue jeans and leggings and today, I must confess, I’m still in PJ’s as I finish out this week’s blog posts. So there’s that.
