What the Heck is Athflow?

Confession #1:  I wear athletic clothing and PJs  a lot these days.

Confession #2:  I am getting tired of feeling crusty and shlumpy. 

I long for something fresh and new to wear around the house, so when I perused Pinterest Predicts, (life and style predictions made by data collected by Pinterest) I was intrigued by “Athflow”.   Aya Kanai, Pinterest’s new style trend spotter as declared Athflow a thing and a big thing for 2021.

What the heck is Athflow?

Athflow is a whole new world of comfortable, yet elegant clothes designed to be worn at home, stretchy enough to wear doing yoga, yet elegant enough to be worn to run errands and grab a coffee.  

I love these silky cargo pants, and fun puff slides. And, of course you can’t go wrong with any soft cardigan, I love this soft creamy cardigan from Carbon 38, plus I think it’s on sale.

I love the flowing lines, soft fabrics and neutral colors and the infusion of elegance, a word we don’t see to often in fashion anymore.  Frankly, I am tired of ripped jeans, and the overly casual looks we see so often these days.  At the same time, we can all agree that we aren’t likely to be wearing structured clothing 

Don’t get me wrong, I still love the structure of a good blazer, sheath dresses, and heels, but I am definitely not wearing those types of clothing at home right now.  Instead, I am looking for something cozy, elegant and chic.  Something fresh, and I think Athflow might be the ticket for me.

We can definitely get the Lady Boss feeling in this skirt and top, and no one need know the top is cropped if you are on Zoom, in fact, unless you are running errands, this vibe is for you and whom ever is at your home! I think it’s a fun change of pace.

How to Make an Athflow wardrobe:

So what do we need to create an athflow style outfit?  Luckily, many of the pieces are right in your closet!  We are seeing lots of wide leg pants and joggers paired with t-shirts, simple camisoles, and barrettes for the more adventurous among us.  These pieces are topped with soft cardigans, or an unstructured jacket.  Footwear includes soft cashmere socks and shearling slippers at home, and white trainers, combat boots and stilettos for chic looks when heading out and about.

Fabrics include soft silk trousers, cashmere, and soft cottons.  The silhouette is simple, flowing on the bottom, more form fitting on the top.  The color palette is neutral, creams, soft grey and cognac shades, primarily monotone which helps to elongate the body and keep your outfit simple, elegant and the mood serene.  Grab out a simple, nice quality t-shirt, a pair of wide leg pants or joggers, top with a matching cardigan, and you are good to go.  

I am always on the hunt for statement sweaters and tops, especially now that I am on Zoom off and on. It seems like a cute sweat pant and a pretty sweater go a long way to lift our spirits. In case you are wondering, the cardigan can be midi, mid thigh or cropped, depending your your body shape, so play, don’t take things too seriously, and enjoy looking your chic best at home.

A great way to boost your look further is to add a beautiful pair of earrings or a necklace to the look, especially if you are going on a zoom call!  Adding a few simple accessories help boost your mood and elevate the look.
